Discounted shoes: how to check size and quality

Feet change over time — the size bought last year isn't a guarantee, especially for kids. Here's how to check a pair before buying it at liquidation.

Measure before trying on

Measure both feet and use the larger one as reference. Try shoes on with the socks you'll actually wear — a winter boot worn with thick socks shouldn't be judged like a light shoe.

Toe space

Toes should be able to move without sliding too much. For a child, a little growing room can help — but a pair that's much too big can cause chafing and reduce stability.

Heel and width
